Interfaith Convocation

- PBS Religion & Ethics: Praying for an End to Nuclear Weapons – Religion & Ethics featured a profile of the Interfaith Convocation, which was organized by leaders from the Fellowship of Reconciliation, Religions for Peace, the United Religions Initiative, Pax Christi, and other faith-based peace and justice organizations. More than 400 attended the overflow event, which Mark Johnson from FOR facilitated and emceed. The voices of Buddhist, Shinto, Indigenous American, Muslim, and Christian spiritual leaders are featured in this overview of last week’s service.
There will be an Interfaith Convocation on Sunday, May 2 from 12:00 -1:00 pm as part of the weekend activities For Peace and Human Needs as a prelude to the NPT activities at the UN beginning May 4.
The service will involve the sharing of the voices, sacred texts, and faith-based statements on nuclear arms and nuclear war of many different faith traditions and faith communities. The gathering will include readings, music and singing, dance, chants and prayers.
People will leave the Interfaith Convocation and walk to Times Square for the rally and march back to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza for the International Peace & Music Festival.
